I. Spa heritage

From Roman baths to a spa town

Vestiges des thermes romains

The Romans already used Amélie's hot springs. What remains of their baths includes vast vaulted halls and pools, evidence of how refined ancient bathing was.

Ancien hôpital thermal militaire

Built between 1847 and 1886, this military spa hospital is laid out in a U around a garden. It recalls the important medical role the resort played in the 19th century.

Good to know

The Mondony gorges can be slippery after rain: good shoes are essential, and avoid the walk in stormy weather.

Céret and its modern art museum are about fifteen minutes away, a good pairing for a day in the Vallespir.

Palalda is best explored on foot: park below the village and walk up through the lanes.
